THE EFFECTS OF RISING HEALTHCARE COSTS ON THE US ECONOMY

THE EFFECTS OF RISING HEALTHCARE COSTS ON THE US ECONOMY

ABSTRACT. In this paper I am particularly interested in exploring the extremely decentralized character of healthcare decision-making in the US, the determinants of healthcare cost growth, possible long-run health enhancements that may cut down health costs, and the expenditures and effectiveness of the healthcare system. My analysis complements the growing literature on the essential drivers of health spending growth, the cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions, reforms projected to back the strength and relevance of healthcare, and long-term consequences of healthcare on health costs. pp. 44–50

Keywords: healthcare cost growth; US economy; reform
