ASSESSING THE INFLUENCE OF PEER REVIEW ON MANUSCRIPT QUALITY

ABSTRACT. Benos et al. contend that the modern peer review system embodies a process of systematically distributing, evaluating, and reaching a consensus on the merits of submitted manuscripts as evidenced by publication acceptance or rejection. Casadevall and Fang explore the latitude provided to authors in scientific manuscripts and distinguish the processes of peer review and censorship. Taraborelli holds that the availability of scientific content in the Internet is challenging the role academic journals had in the past as vehicles for scientific communication and as filters of scientific quality.
