Dying away the death of a thorny rose

Dying away the death of a thorny rose

A dual nature by all means, owing to his mixed heritage, Dimitrie Anghel, “the poet of flowers” finally succumbed to the terrible stress of loving and living with a woman who, being so much like himself, recoiled, struck back and eventually turned into his worst enemy. She happened to be the wife of his friend, a much-loved poet – which turned the public opinion against himself. Under attack from all sides, and mostly from within, bursting out of his inner turmoils, he was no longer able to control his rage, and became an easy prey to his death wish. pp. 71–75

Keywords: the enemy within, praying mantis
