THE INCREASED SIGNIFICANCE OF EDUCATION AS AN INVESTMENT IN HUMAN CAPITAL

ABSTRACT. There have been few comprehensive assessments of what research has learned about the extent to which globalization affects investments in human capital, the forces that shape human capital accumulation, and the interaction between schooling and ability with experience in earning regressions. In this paper I am particularly interested in exploring the true impact of globalization on enrollment, the role of education in the accumulation of human capital, and the plausibility of signaling as an explanation for the private returns to schooling. pp. 336–341

Keywords: investment, human capital accumulation, education, globalization, schooling
