HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE IN THE HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM INDUSTRY

ABSTRACT. The analysis presented in this paper contributes to research on the sustainable development of tourism in SIDS, the characteristics of employment in the tourism industries, the negative implications of the Internet on the tourism industry, and the relationship between human capital and the tourism sector. The material gathered in this study provides a rich and diverse context for understanding leadership practices in the hospitality industry, the process of increasing the human capital stock in the tourism industry, the unsustainable development of tourism in SIDS, and the dramatic changes occurring in the tourism industry. The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of the unresolved role in tourism of productivity-enhancing activities as innovation or human capital investment, training needs of the tourism sector, the job creating capacity of tourism, and e-business applications in tourism. pp. 160–165
