STRAWSON ON TRUTH, MEANING AND UNDERSTANDING

STRAWSON ON TRUTH, MEANING AND UNDERSTANDING

ABSTRACT. Strawson notes that the meanings of the sentences of a language are largely determined by the semantic and syntactic rules or conventions of that language. The meaning of a sentence is a syntactic function of the meanings of its parts and their arrangement. Strawson tries to explain the foundation of the basic combination of predication on which our logic rests.
