THE RELEVANCE OF THE RIGHT TO WORK AND SECURING EMPLOYMENT FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ASYLUM SEEKERS

THE RELEVANCE OF THE RIGHT TO WORK AND SECURING EMPLOYMENT FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ASYLUM SEEKERS

ABSTRACT. Over the past decade, there has been increasing evidence describing the right to work of asylum seekers, direct and indirect consequences of post-migration stressors on the socio-economic assimilation of refugees, the obstacles encountered by refugees in accessing employment, and asylum seekers’ condition as aspiring workers. As a result of these earlier research findings, this study sought to determine the keeping out of asylum seekers from work, the significance of social and cultural means to refugees’ socio-economic assimilation, the effects of granting the right to work to asylum seekers, and the impacts of post-migration detention on their mental health. pp. 227–233
